Movie Sunday: Beyoncé's Revenge!

Image
So the list of movies I have to watch for one reason or another has been growing and the list of movies I've been watching has screeched to a halt - so since I have a last day to myself before hell week, I think I'm going to take most of today to watch some of these movies (and of course, critique them.) Hm, interesting juxtaposition in the movie poster of white and black. Subtle racial themes!? The first movie on my list is "Obsessed" starring Beyoncé and Ali Larter (who played Niki Sanders , and her various alter egos on Heroes.) They actually advertised it back when Heroes was on, and for some reason it stuck out in my head last time I was at Blockbuster trying to find a movie -which was um, a fair number of weeks ago. So I got to get this watched and returned. The Plot: Beyoncé and this guy have a perfect marriage, newborn, and a new house - but there's this hot blonde temp at work (Ali Larter) who is clearly trying to seduce Mr. Beyoncé. And not norma...

Jiang Shi for Dummies

Image
Are you ready to learn everything you never thought you'd need to know about Chinese Vampires? Good. The "Jiang Shi" , written in Chinese as 僵尸 or as 僵屍 in "Traditional Chinese," literally means "stiff corpse." Technically, Jiang Shi are closer to Chinese counterparts of a Westerner's image of a zombie than a vampire. How to identify them? Well, their most obvious feature is their mode of transportation - because of the rigor mortis in their legs, Chinese Vampires hop. It's almost comical, until they KILL YOU! Some other interesting Chinese vampire traits: they are blind and have no knowledge, they track people by smelling their breath (this means holding your breath keeps them from seeing you - kinda like T-Rex's from Jurassic Park.) They chase people trying to steal their "po" or life force of some type. How to fight them you ask? Well Taoist monks can write spells on rice parchment, and stick them to their forehead with sticky ...

LEGObama

Hello internet. Not much happening today, had a light day as most Mondays - after classes went back to Garf to pick up a few things (like my Presidential Seal M&Ms, West Wing DVDs, The Great Gatsby , a Seal of the State of Ohio, and an ironing board among other things. David bought an iPod touch with his own earned money from work! >/ I am not happy. This whole "getting an education" thing is suddenly seeming annoying. But before my day went a tad bit sourer, this morning I woke up and while wandering the internet found THIS awesome website that produced the following pictures: Omg, that's so awesome! Lol, its Barack Obama's inauguration - in LEGO's! Also among pictures I found while wandering today, behind the scenes images from Heroes : Elle, from the episode she's killed in. The funny caption for this image is "Dear Diary, its been one of Those days..." OH! And can I just disclaim my disagreement with the decision to move Heroes , who...

Boring Tuesday

Image
Yeah, nothing particularly of note happened today. Wanted to sleep in but had to be up for my 8-10am shift, then got Rob's, took a nap before my 1:45 class only to wake up at like 1:35 and still have to like shower and change. Watched a movie on Lewis and Clark in history, then College Dems at 4:30, then went and visited Patsy at the Circle K office. "Is there a board meeting in the office?" "No, but I'm in the office and I'm bored!" lol. Went to get Starbucks, only to screw up my order ("Apple Chai frappuchino with whipped cream and carmel drizzle." Not supposed to have added the "frappuchino" part.) The lady got GRRR-angry at me, lol, so I'm thinking I'm gonna steer clear of Starbucks for a while. Then the Circle K meeting went well, and we went to Denny's afterward for some more fun! Actually, as a result of this experience I'm moving Starbucks back into the "Active Lentan Items"... My Lent Item: Meat Star...
