Flixervention

Here I am trying to write about a Netflix-ervention, and I'm having trouble because I'm distracted by Netflix! What better metaphor.

Well, for the last month or so, I've been trying Netflix and I gotta say it's AWESOME! I ended up having to cancel the Blockbuster subscription because there are no more Blockbusters within a hundred miles of here, and it just wasn't worth it anymore.  Alas, I am a big supporter of brand loyalty but Blockbuster just couldn't cut it for me anymore.

Picture of the Day: While I haven't been playing Star Trek: Online, they've expanded into Utopia Planitia Ship Yards and created a bunch of class development patches which I think are pretty cool.  I threw in the modern day Intrepid's patch, and the 2150s Intrepid patch.



Quote of the Day: Is there anything worse than realizing how good a show is after it's already been canceled? That is how I feel about Better Off Ted. I've been slowly making my way through the two half seasons that are on Netflix, and O- M- G. This show is magical. I don't really like the lab guys, but Veronica and Ted are just the best. They have the Jack Donaghy/Liz Lemon rapport, but Ted isn't Liz-pathetic.

Ted: "Where is everybody?"
Veronica: "If Corporate calls I'm going with, 'It's Saturday.'"
Video of the Day: The music video for the song: "Revenge of the Nerds" by Verbal. Leading off of the previous comment, Whaaaaat - after Better Off Ted was canceled one of the actors Malcolm Barrett who played Lem Hewitt, is a 'spoken word artist' (Rapper?) and the cast got back together for this! That is great.

So I've been in a bit of a Star Trek mood lately, and right now I'm watching the movie Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country before bed. Having noticed a few things I'd never noticed before, I feel like I should publish them on the internet somewhere! The Universal Translator Malfunctions from Star Trek: Discovery "An Obol for Charon" - Translated

The universal translator is one of Star Trek's greatest thematic devices, used to explain why all the aliens seem to speak English . Like many Star Trek inventions, we're inching closer and closer to a universal translator (for known, Earth languages) being a reality - even if it doesn't somehow change the speaker's lip movements. In the Star Trek: Discovery second season episode " An Obol for Charon ," the universal translator malfunctions translating the crew's spoken English into what I've liked to call "a chaotic cacophony" akin to the Tower of Babel; the crew can't understand each other or their consoles. Why is Jack Frost a Douchebag?

Flipping through channels on this fine snow-filled Saturday morning, I accidentally found "Frosty's Winter Wonderland" (1976) on ABC Family. I'm only catching what I think may be the ending, but wow is this bad. There's a priest snowman? Frosty got married!? When did that happen? (Clearly, in 1976.) But before I could judge too harshly, a Jack Frost character made his required douchbagginess apparent. Jack Frost from "Frosty's Winter Wonderland" (1976) Here I guess he was causing mischief and mayhem or something, until Mrs. Crystal theSnowman (?) was nice to him and he became the best man at their wedding?? Riight. His hair kinda looks like a combination of what I wanted mine to look like -- with that of an anime character from Yu-Gi-Oh! or Digimon or something.
