Spring Break, Part 5: Hyde Park, FDR's House

Image
As Sunday rolled around, we needed to head home to Akron. I'd already looked into visiting Franklin D. Roosevelt's house in Hyde Park before the trip, and it looked like I'd get my wish -- cause unless we wanted to drive through the middle of Manhattan and a million tunnels (which we didn't), we'd pass relatively close to it. Along the way, we *Happened* to pass through Chappaqua, NY -- current residence of the Clintons! Alan Arkin (from Little Miss Sunshine) and "the lead singer of Survivor" also live here apparently. You'd think you'd be able to find a decent restaurant, but we couldn't find a single one! Arr. Haha, also on the way there we crossed this toll free bridge. (The two in Manhattan cost 8 bucks a piece! Craziness!) It had several signs warning "DO NOT TAKE PICTURES OF BRIDGE" that were pretty serious. Naturally, Sarah had to stick it to'm - so for you're viewing pleasure, THE FORBIDDEN BRIDGE!: After a morning o...

Morning boys and girls, Christmas in my house was not as bad as I'd worried! Mom got the presents right for Sure this year! (By actually shopping for the stuff on our list, surprising but its a method that works...) I made off with the list that follows! 1. "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin . Book about Lincoln's cabinet that inspired Obama to select his cabinet. Number 1 New York Times best-seller! 2. "Rated R" CD by Rihanna . Woohoo! I've been hoping to buy a Rihanna CD, I don't have any yet. Listening to it now, looking for a song of the day. 3. "Star Trek" (new Movie) 2 disc special edition DVD . WOOHOO! Watched the special features already! Glad no one tried to get me the Star Trek movie without the special features, cause that puts me in an awkward position of "well, I want the special features, but I don't want to buy a second copy..." which is why if you're going to get me a DVD, try to be careful about Spec...

"On the island,..."

So, boredom has taken over my life. Played Silent Hill a bunch, The Matrix, even watched this "Killer Tomatoes Eat France" movie (at least more than half of it, it seemed to keep going and going after what I'd thought was the climax of the film so I turned it off...) And with a week left till my birthday, its important I get to my list! Oh, but first let me say - for reasons I don't remember I was looking into Islands on Lake Erie, and there are unmanned islands on lake erie! OMG - I want to go to an abandoned island! This one below, Mouse Island I believe, is just big enough for that to be cool, and just close enough to get there by a tiny boat I would be able to rent/get rather than a giant one I can't afford!!! I can't wait til the day I can call mom and say "Hey, I'm trapped on a deserted island..." List of things to do, def. (the reason this is poorly cropped is so I could get the passing boat in for size comparison.) And here's a thing ...

It's a Beautiful New Day

So I'm not a big fan of a bunch of posts over a short period of time, but just wanted to add some things. I got my passport today, thanks to moms morning-express delivery service. Thanks to delivery delays, it reads "Issued on January 21st, 2009" -- the exact day a certain someone was sworn in as U.S. Secretary of State (the department responsible for US citizens abroad, as well as all diplomatic and negotiation efforts.) So woohoo for that kinda cool thing. On all the visa pages for stamps, it has quotes from important American individuals -- and Teddy count = 2. His head is on Mount Rushmore on one page, and a quote by him is on another n.n I understand that life is rarely fair. It hasn't been fair to any of the individuals I idolize or aspire to be. Lincoln, Clinton, Ryan, two Roosevelts and King. Most of those didn't live to see their dream come fruition. All we can do is hope for the best, and work our hardest, and if it isn't enough, at least we can say...
